About Us

Who We Are

Par Tee Girls Golf Club (PTG) is a San Francisco Bay Area women’s golf group.  Our Club caters to multiple levels of play and has a mix of casual and competitive players.  We do request that all potential members have played at least five rounds of 18 holes before considering joining our group.  This helps with understanding the pace of play and simple golf etiquette.

  • Tournaments take place one weekend day a month (either Saturday or Sunday) between the months of March and November.
  • Each tournament fee is based on where it is played.  Costs usually range from $65 to $125.
  • To help keep our costs down, tournament and other fees should all be submitted through PayPal.
  • We try to schedule a couple of Stay N’ Plays a year.  One is in the Monterey Peninsula and the other in Napa and/or Tahoe.
  • Please contact Debbie Gill (President) at debigill@comcast.net  if you have any questions.

From La Presidenta:

It was a tough day on the links with the rough uncut from last week's PGA tournament, so we  all just laughed. Needless  to say, we likened it to an Easter egg hunt with some stinky balls left where they lie.  We wallowed in our play at Elise's with drink, great food, and fun. Her partee shouldn't be missed  next year.

Group 1:   Elise Leung, Betty Osborn, Debbie Gill, Valerie Makarovsky. As reviewed by Debbie. We were awed by Elise’s drives. She hits it a ton. However, on the par-4, #3 she made it on in regulation to then 5-putt the hole. Debbie won closest to the pin on #11 only to 4-putt for a 5. Debbie also had problems with some of the sand traps, not getting the ball out but getting her body out. They need handicap bunkers.  Poor Betty had a tough day. She had two 9s on the front nine that deflated her confidence. She rallied on the back nine but she found the putting difficult as we all did. Valerie started out with a row of 8s and she had the most difficult time hunting for her balls in the rough. She did par the 18th hole, so she’ll be back. Most of us made it to Elise’s for a blowout party. Debbie traumatized the four kids there when she lit her marshmallow on fire and then ate it.

Group 2:   Althea Peng, Katie Arnemann, Maureen Theberge, JoAnn Deasy.  As remembered by Althea. Note to self: while it may sound cool to play a course that the pros just played, don’t be fooled! I think the course won versus the ParTee Girls on Saturday. The rough was very rough and the greens were slick. When we weren’t hacking our balls out of the rough, we were dumping them into the water - in fact on hole #11, our foursome managed to put 6 balls in the water! Katie, JoAnn, and Maureen all chose to pick up and DQ’d themselves from the competition at some point throughout the round, which made adding up scores at the end pretty easy! And while Althea managed to finish and even win fewest putts, the highlight of her round was the cheeseburgerdog with grilled onions. Thank goodness we had Elise’s party to look forward to after the round - it kept us motivated to finish, and the party did not disappoint - a beautiful setting, delicious food and drink, and fun company. Grateful to have you lovely ladies in my life!

Group 3:   Meleah Larroca, Jacqueline Johnson, Jessica Harrison, Jane Hornaday.  As scribed by Jacqueline. It was an incredible day followed by an awesome afterparty at Elise’s (thank you Elise for hosting us at your lovely home!).  Still playing at PGA conditions, the rough at Silverado was….rough.   We lost count of how many balls we hit just off the fairway that were swallowed up and never to be found.  On the bright side though, Jane and Jessica were nailing the long putts all day long.   After surviving a swarm of bees on the driving range, Jessica ended up with the low net for the round.  Jacqueline was able to squeak out the longest drive win as well as closest to the pin by being the only one to hit the green on #7, and after a slow start on the front, Meleah was on fire on the back 9 and hit what was truly the longest drive of the day for our group on #14.   Great day all around!

When she hits it, she hits it long

Group 1:    Katie Arnemann, Mary Jo Leary, Orla Petirs, Jacqueline Johnson. As scribed by Jacqueline.  It was a windy but beautiful day out at Blue Rock Springs.  It’s a really fun course with some short par 3’s and some challenging par 5's. Katie played at least half the holes on another hole’s fairway, Jacqueline was in the traps on at least that many, and there was a noticeable lack of bathrooms and beverage carts, but somehow, we all ended up with moments of glory.  Orla and Katie both had pars with 0 putts on separate par 3’s.  There were plenty of long drives throughout the round, with Jacqueline inching out Orla on # 9 to win the prize.   And Katie and Orla went to a tiebreaker for the low net #2 prize. Mary Jo (“The Enforcer”) was the real hero of the round though when she had enough bad behavior from the group in front of us and went to go lay down the law.  (Mary Jo politely explained to the gentlemen that it’s poor etiquette to drive carts over the greens.) The rest of us quietly cheered her on while we cowered at the tee box and took selfies.

Group 2:   (Debbie Gill), Kathy Lemon, Lana Yagle, Joanne Wood. As remembered by Kathy. We were really looking forward to golfing with La Presidenta, but a flu-like bug had other plans for Debbie, and she wasn't able to join us. It wasn't easy, but we managed to have fun even without her. There were some moments of brilliance in our group. Lana played well on the par 3 holes, including a great up and down on number 8. The par 3s were my friends, also; I bogeyed 4 out of 5. On the 10 par 4s, I scored double bogey on 8 of them. Unfortunately, that wasn't a prize category. So much for Lana's and my rounds. Now let's talk about the star of the group. Joanne was hitting all her clubs solidly, and putting like her hair was on fire. After the first 4 holes, we were sure she was going to win putts as she one-putted the first 3 and came within inches of sinking a really long putt (50 feet?) on number 4. On number 5, that horrible uphill par 5 that goes on forever, she again one-putted for a remarkable bogey. Her back nine was not as stellar as the front, but she gave the crowd a thrill when she pitched in for par from about 25 yards on hole 14. With a 47 on the front nine and a good-enough back nine, Joanne came in with a net 71—first place!  Although the course is not pristine, I like playing there because of the beautiful views and the easy commute (less than 10 minutes) from my house.

Group 3:  Jane Hornaday, Deborah Upshaw, Lily Boris, Judy Moran.  As fondly remembered by Lily. Bravery as Judy and Lily declared that: “they’d walk the course.” Paid off for Judy as she has low gross and closest to the pins! She blasted past hole 1 (PAR) & hole 2 (birdie).  And she didn’t stop. Lily, waffled back and forth with some splendid shots! And a few not so splendid!   But managed lots of one putts. That’s 7 in total! Jane was bombing her driver enthusiastically! Her second shots were pure leading to lots of healthy bogies.  No sweat! Deb, played the PAR 3’s solidly.  Managed lots of ‘sand’ shots. And generally, was a delight even when in sand trouble! Lastly wanted to mention we book-ended holes 10 & 18.  With all 4 of us having 5’s on 10 & 18.  Time to purchase a lottery ticket!

Group 4: Maureen Theberge, Virginia Lawson, Valerie Makarovsky, Joy Woo. As memorialized by Joy.  A beautiful day (albeit windy at times) with lovely birds around the course. Birds that glide, fly, chirp, sing, and perch, but no birdies for this group. Valerie was thrilled with her pars and said this doesn’t happen for me. However, she parred three holes on the front. Valerie can drive that ball and it flew out there. She kindly held bush branches back to allow Virginia to swing her club. Valerie and Virginia had the competing red golf balls until Virginia finally said I’m switching to pink (did she lose the red or just put them away; I won’t tell). Joy seemed to have first tee nerves on holes 1 and 10 and was the farthest from the pin on 16; she parred a couple of holes and will play golf again especially after a nice gentleman returned her lost driver headcover. Jacqueline did an excellent job keeping us organized, and Kathy crunched the numbers for us all. We wish Debbie a speedy recovery and hope to see her out at Silverado.
